Introduction to Statistics


Course Description:

If the course is taken under the Woodbury University credit option:
Credits: 4 semester credits
Prerequisite:   To be successful in this course, students should have either a year of high school Algebra ll or one semester of Intermediate Algebra with a grade of C or better.
Transfer: CSU, UC - 4 year degree applicable

A study of descriptive and inferential statistics and its applications to the fields of economics, business, ecology, psychology, education, mathematics, and applied science. Topics are inclusive of, but not limited to, the analysis and classification of data, numerical summary measures, probability, discrete and continuous probability distributions, statistics and their sampling distribution, the Central Limit Theorem, point estimation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing with one and two samples, correlation and regression, Chi-Test and the F-Distribution, Analysis of Variance, and Nonparametric Tests.

Student Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Gain a clear understanding of basic statistical techniques.
2. Use clear and concise procedures for applying statistical methods to problems in the natural sciences.
3. Utilize the computer and/or calculator to solve statistical problems.
